First : the change and innovation terms

Change is the rule of life, it means differences between two phases –before and after change- where things before never similar to things after, based on the modifying processes, rules, management styles, work flows, etc. Thus, the change is the movement of an organization away from its present state toward some aimed future state in order to increase its efficiency and effectiveness. Generally, change may not be always for better phase comparing with the previous one. The motive for change is always good while applying is not, where the change controller face many difficulties during change process; resistance is at the top of those difficulties, that is why change does not always lead to better phase. On the other side, Innovation concept always refers to enhancement and working hard to introduce either modified products based on the incumbent products with very new features, shape, and capabilities, or definitely new unique products. In innovation process, the organization is always on the bleeding edge to experience and learn from things that are not going according to plan. Here you should noticed, that even if the innovation process full of newness and development but customers may not like the new features or the new products>

Second : the differences between innovation and change

Second : the differences between innovation and change

We will explain the differences between change and innovation from the following points :

We will explain the differences between change and innovation from the following points :

  1. The output; in change process the outputs before and after changing are the same, where the organization still have the same mainstream about the products or services produced, the difference here is the new style and process the organization applied, while in the innovation process the outputs are entirely new and novel. Hence innovation process we cannot compare between two phases –before and after- where the whole process is new, unlike the change process.
  2. The time: Always in change process, we do have the crucial time, where things before that time never similar to things after, and the success of change process depends on choosing the right time to apply the change, where in innovation time is important but not like the change process, it does not play a critical role
  3. Change is associated with certainty where the purpose of change is to improve the workflows, the systems, and the internal environment that people get used to the upper next level leading by technology era. The strategies to achieve this goal is usually clear and the desired outcome is almost certain, regardless of some obstacles, which related directly to adapt with the new systems. Whereas innovation is associated with uncertainty, where the goal is not as clear as change in addition to the unpredictable reactions from external environment –customers at the top of the components of external environment-. The organization does not save any effort to put the innovation process on the right path in order to achieve the required results, but this path is gloomy, full of risks and challenges.

Third : Conclusion

At the end, change is the essence of human continuation, it’s a process conducted by the nature of life, but we should notice that the outcomes of change process are not always as desired, plus the challenges and risks are inherent in every changing decision a manager makes. Sometimes change is occurring too fast that it is difficult to identify risks until they are upon us. Nowadays, change is leading by the technological revolution, which makes the predictable studies impossible; many companies around the world take change decision overnight to ensure carrying on in the market. On the other side, innovation process consumes much time until the manager takes the decision to apply. Innovation always introduces totally, completely new products or services where the markets not used to handle such products or services. As a result, every innovation process includes change process but not vice versa.
